In recent years the demand for spicy
food has greatly
increased. Spicy food restaurants and cafes have opened their doors
offering Eastern dishes, cookbooks are full of colorful
tempting pictures and recipes,
markets boast of a wide choice of
spices and fiery sauces. Spices are included even in chewing gum, as
for example Dentyne Fire gum by Cadbury Adams or Orbit with cinnamon.
Other popular products like potato chips and roasted peanuts also
become spicier. As the marketing chief of Kettle Foods Michelle
Peterman explained: “People are telling us they want spicy
chips”,
so the manufacturers just have to follow these needs.
Today hot spicy food
is sold in each part of the world,
being available to all groups of society. Those spicy food-lovers who
are not used to spend much money on eating can visit fast food snack
bars which also do their best to satisfy this world passion for
spice. Thus California Pizza Kitchen Hot and Spicy Sausage Pizza by
Kraft, as well as Spicy Premium Chicken Sandwich of McDonald's have
won the hearts (or the stomachs?) of thousands of people.
Along with plain spicy food, there
are many exquisite
restaurants offering delicious spicy dishes of different national
cuisines. Year by year they are becoming more and more numerous and
various, so that it is a real challenge to make the choice.
Perhaps most of European spicy
food restaurants are
concentrated in Great Britain. During the colonization of India
British culture adopted much from Indian music, painting and art of
cooking. The oldest spicy food restaurant in Britain is The Punjab
Restaurant, named after one of Indian states. It was founded in 1947
by Gurbachan Singh Maan and specializes in traditional Punjabi
rustic fare. The restaurant was awarded and gained worldwide acclaim.
One of the most remarkable spicy
food restaurant of
the USA is Baltimore, in Washington DC. The menu is composed after
several levels of spiciness – Low, Medium, Medium hot, Hot
and,
finally, Indian Hot, so even a beginner at spicy food eating won't
find him/herself in a tight corner. Besides that Baltimore has a
large assortment of vegetarian spicy food dishes and is proud of
reasonable prices. Although the best way to know the advantages of
one or another spicy food restaurant is to visit it several times and
to taste all the paragraphs of the menu!
